I PROBLEM OF SUCCESSION The history of the Yadavas from the time of their origin to Bhillama V is yet to be rescued from the oblivion of obscurity. [...] The material bearing on the subject so far brought to light is not suffcient to give a connected history of the family previous to the reign of Bhillama V ; the sources being limited to the legendary account given by Hemadri the celebrated minister of the Yadava Mahadeva and Ramcandra and a few records of this period. [...] In some of the inscriptions the descent is claimed by them from the mythical hero Yadu from whom the name Yadava was derived.1 The Sangammer stone Inscription2 dated in aka 922 = A. D. 1000 and which is the earliest record of the family traces the history of the Yadavas from 8arnbhu who was followed by Brahman Marici Atri Indra Pururavas Ayus Nahusa Yayati and Yadu. [...] Drdhaprahara was the name of the second son who was given the region of the south. [...] It was from Seunacandra that the family and the country over which he ruled derived their names.23 The Y5davas till the time of their last king 115macandra continued to call themselves Seunas.24 The records of other dynasties partcularly those of the Hoysalas name them as Seunas and the Prataparadriya refers to them as the rulers of the Seuna country :2') Seunacandra also founded the town of
