Vanapa is a renowned historical figure, whose name remains relevant today, and is used as a model of chivalry. The book, Vanapa Chanchin Kimchang, by Vanlalhuala, is a biographical book about Vanapa, his story from birth, to how he rose to fame within the local community, till his death. His story plays an important role in portraying the moral values of the people of the hills, especially in the days when chieftainship was their relevant administration. Through his story, we also see an insight into three chiefs, Lalsavunga, Vanhnuailiana and Liankhama.
