THE following notification dated Delhi The New the 2nd November 1915 has Education been published in the Gazette Member of India Extraordinary :-- A vacancy having occurred in the office of an Ordinary Member of the Council of the GovernoGeneral of India by the resignation of the Honorable Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler K.C.S. [...] Invitations will now be issued to all heamasters managers or secretaries of all private schools and all principals and professors of private colleges in the United Provinces the non-official and Honorary Fellows of the Allahabad University the members of Hindu University Society and of the Muslim University Association belonging to these Provinces and the noofficial member of the local L [...] The privilege of having the head of the Goverment as head of the University was one that was naturally highly valued by us and we submitted a representation asking that the decision of the Secretary of State on the point might be recosidered. [...] The movement has from the start been worked in the conviction the deliberate conviction that it is essential for the success of the University that it should secure the good-will and sympathy of the Government and that it should alwa)s retain that sympathy. [...] My Lord some of my country men who are keenly interested in the proposed University and the educational movement which it represents have somewhat misunderstood the position of the Hindu University Society and of the promoters of the University in respect of some of the powers vested in the Visitor.
