G. Narayana explains in the first place that the Saarsga-Saisiris are the descendants of a Ksh4traja son begotten by 4 Saisiri of the gotra of the Katas (a sub-division of the Visvamitra-. gcitta) on the wife of a Sunga of the Bharadvaja-gotra that they Are doktooistvay inas and have pravaras derived from both the"THE CALCUTTA LAW JOURNAL. [...] meant respectively for the addition of the word asagotra in relation to the mother and of the word asapinda in relation to the father so as to exclude a sagotra and a sapinda of the mother as well as of the father for purposes of marriage.. [...] the natural father in the case of a person having two fathers but belonging to the gotra of the owner of the field i.e. [...] That passage is obviously inapplicable to an adopted son for it postulates the existence of two :different persons one as the " owner of the seed " and the other as the " Owner of the field " whereas in the Case of an adopted son they are one and the same person namely his natural father. [...] the word " father's " in the marriage-text as indicating that the seven dgrees of the sapinda relation'ship on the side of the father of the proposed bridegroom are to be counted not from the bridegroom himself but from his father.
