In May the whole Province with the exception of the Burdwan Division got considerably more than the usual amount of rain which was much above the average in the Rajsliahi and the Chittagong Divisions. [...] The average date for the commencement of the rainy season in Bengal is about the middle of June but this year the rains were ushered in by a feeble advance of the Bay current during the last week of the month and were fairly in excess over the greater part of the Province. [...] On the whole the rainfall during the monsoon period was in defect in the Presidency and the Burdwan Divisions and in excess in the other Divisions specially Chittagong. [...] The subjoined table shows in order of sequence the mortality from the principal diseases during 1915 in the several Comparison between the mortdiViSiOnS of this Presidency as compared with that lily in the several divisions of this Presidency for the preceding year and the average of the five years 1910-1914:— CAUSES OF DEATHS. [...] These two sub-divisions were responsible for 18 819 deaths out of a total of 26 662 in the whole district." As regards the severe prevalence of the disease in Malda the Civil Surgeon says :- "It first broke out in October epidemically in Kharba thana of this district and in the Barsoi thana of the Purnea district which is adjacent to the atrischandrapur thana And is situated on the same river.
