A. M. Hayman the then President of the Indian Hockey Federation accopanied the team at his own expense and represented the country in most of the social functions. [...] A civic reception was accorded to the team at San Francisco and the key of the City was presented by the Mayor to the Indian delegation. [...] There were about three teams in the tournament and Japan was placed second in the tournament by beating United States by 9 goals to 2. In the two matches in the Olympic Games all the fifteen boys took part and therefore every one of them qualified to receive the gold medal awarded to the winners of each event in the Games. [...] At the time of our departure from the Olympic Village the Director of the Olympic village wrote the following mesage to the writer : — The India team staying in the village longer than any of the others became part of the family. [...] C. E. Newham a farmer Vice-President of the Indian Hockey Federation and former President of the Punjab Hockey Association the well-known journalist then on the staff of the Pioneer of Allahabad of which he was the Editor later on started a campaign with a view to having some central organization like the present Indian Hockey Federation but though the idea fell on fertile ground it did not
