The Year 1782 witnessed the publication of Orme's Historical Fragments of the Mogul Empire of the Morattoes and of the English Concerns in Indostan from 1659 which exhibits Sivaji as_ the guardian of the nation he had formed and as a general superior to all others in personal activity. [...] The fifteen selections cover the period of the Anglo-French struggle in the Carnatic and a brief account of the contest may assist in the elucidation of the documents. [...] When the English fleet under Captain Curtis Barnett reached the Coromandel Coast in 1745 Dupleix requested the Nawab to warn the English of the consequences of any breach of the peace and requistioned the services of La Bourdonnais Governor of the Islands of Bourbon and Mauritius off Madagascar and a man of remarkable energy and ability and of solid achievements in the administration of the [...] A scheme for the establishment of French predominance in the Carnatic and the Deccan was formulated by Dualeiz who strove to secure the goodwill of the princes and people of the country. [...] Trichinopoly in the vicinity of Uraiyur the ancient Chola capital became the capital of the Nayaks of Madura in 1616 and In the following year Topur (Tohur) a village near Trichinopoly witnessed the decisive battle of the great civil war in the empire of Vijayanagar.
