The recommendations of the Commission were intended to provide a basis for a large-scale attempt to increase the production of food and to raise the standards of nutrition in India with a view to removing the recurring threat of scarcity and famine. [...] in view of the close connection between (C) the duties of the Centre in executing a common food policy for India and the development of agriculture the constitution of a single Department at the Centre of Food and Agricuture whose functions are limited to these two subjects should be consdered. [...] A careful study of the effect of pos(C)' The question of population birth-control ponement of the age of marriage on postponement of the age of marriage etc. [...] The appointment of a Registrar-General (B) to the Government of India and Registrars in the provinces is rcommended to improve the regitration of births and deaths and collect and study demographical data of various kinds. [...] The Machinery of Government Commiditee decided not to proceed with the creation of the office of the Registrar-General to the Government of India.
