That must be avoided if the resources of the two countries are not to be wasted on piling up arms and armaments to the utter neglect of the pressing needs of the people. [...] The characterisation clearly exposes the fraudulent nature of the shape given to the so-called freedom said to have been won by the country and for the defence of which the average citizen is being called up'on pesistently to make all possible sacrifices. [...] B. R. Ambedkar committed the humour of telling the Constituent Assembly that he was satisfied that the provisions of the article were sufficient to safeguard the liberties of the citizens. [...] The yoty idea of inclusion of fundamental rights in the constitution sand thus providing them with a constitutional gurantee arose out of the necessity increasingly realised in modern times of affording protection to the citizen not only from the Executive but also from the majorities in the legislatures. [...] The consequence is the series of contemporary crises in the spheres of world commerce and finance the stresses generated by efforts to build up exclusive and self-sufficient systems in a one-world context and the colossal diversion of scarce supplies to the piling up of armed strength.
