He is not so warmly interested in the Sons of India as are the Viceroy and the Governors of Bombay and Madras but holds a position of benevolent neutrality ' being a good deal swayed by the views of the Principals of aided Colleges that we shall interfere with the discipline of their Colleges. [...] In the midst of the noise and confusion of the building we may miss the grandeur of the prportions of the edifice we may fail to recognise the master-hand guiding and directing the workmen to their appointed tasks but to those who will look back upon the present time as the distant past shall come the knowledge of the greatness of our Chief’s work and the realisation that in these days was th [...] A group for the improvement of moral education has also been formed and a lecture was delivered by a member of this group to the Indian officers and men of the 8ist Pioneers on the life of Sri Ramakrishna Parahamsa The Dhesbhimana Lodge at Tiruppani Vattaram (Tanjore District) formed on March 17th is engaged in the improvement of sanitation and in the spread of religious education in the vil [...] The subscription to the Journal moreover does not—at the present rate of circulation—cover the cost of publication and despatch and at present we depend upon the support of some members of the Supreme Council. [...] But who are the depressed classes and what is their relation to the rest of the population ? So far as can be made out these classes are the descendants of the original inhabitants of the country who being only partly attracted towards the Aryan settlers either did not or were not allowed to enter into all the benefits of the Aryan civilization.
