Qawali mahotsav 2018: qawali singing

The video is a recording of the Qawali Mahotsav, 2018 which took place at the Tagore Theatre in Chandigarh, Punjab. This three day festival was dedicated to the Sufi devotional musical form of Qawwali. The Qawwali is a form that is unique to the Indian subcontinent as it originated from the Sufi shrines and dargahs of South Asia. The video showcases the performance of the Nizami Brothers of the Secunderabad gharana. The Nizami Brothers present a double act featuring the vocal artistry of Ustad Ghulam Sabir Nizami and Ustad Ghulam Waris Nizami. They start their performance with a rendition of the 14th century ghazal Chhaap Tilak Sab Chheni, written and composed by Amir Khusro. The Kabir bhajan Fakiri Mein Lago Mero Yaar and the Sufi kafi (poem) written by the 18th century Punjabi Sufi poet-saint Baba Bulleh Shah, Mera Piya Ghar Aaya, were also featured in the event.
