Alha singing is a prominent genre of folk songs of Uttar Pradesh. The singing of Alha in Uttar Pradesh is as important as the singing of Powada in Maharashtra. In this genre, the young, passionate, and talented Alha singer of Uttar Pradesh, Sheelu Singh Rajput, has achieved fame in a very short time. Sheelu Singh Rajput is the disciple of Alha Guru late Shri Lallu Vajpayee. She is a resident of Lakushahar village in Khanpur Khushti taluka of Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh. The artists who accompanied Sheelu Singh Rajput’s impressive presentation were equally proficient and passionate. It has been observed that good musicians provide impetus to the artist during the presentation. This was proved by Ramavadh on the clarinet, Vasudev on the Dholak, Raj Bahadur on the Dandatal, Pawan Kumar on the Cymbals, who provided accompaniment to Sheelu Singh Rajput. Gudu accompanied Sheelu Singh Rajput in singing. The context of the song chosen by Sheelu Singh Rajput for Sanjari was the 'marriage of Udal'. The essence of this song was that at the behest of King Paramala of Mahoba, Udal Dheva goes to Kabul to buy a horse. When he reaches Narwalgarh, he sees Phulwa, the daughter of the local king. He decides to marry her. He goes to meet Phulwa by dressing up as a woman and promises her that he will marry her. After this, to fulfil his promise the brave Rajput Udal invades Narwalgarh with his army. A pitched battle takes place. In the end, Udal wins. The king of Narwalgarh marries his daughter Phulwa to the brave Udal. The presentation by Sheelu Singh showed a good synchronization of body movements and singing. The dialogue delivery and facial expressions matched the narrative, which made her presentation very effective. She presented the storyline with full confidence and portrayed the ‘Veer’, ‘Karun’, and ‘Shringar’ Rasa very well. When Shilu sang in Veer Rasa with a sword in her hand, she was looking like the very image of goddess Chandika. The audience liked her passionate singing very much. In the future, a lot can be expected from this young artist. आल्हा गायन उत्तर प्रदेश की लोकगायकी की महत्वपूर्ण विधा है। महाराष्ट्र में जो महत्व पोवाडा का है वही महत्व उत्तर प्रदेश में आल्हा गायन का है। इस विधा में उत्तर प्रदेश की युवा, जोशीली और प्रतिभाशाली आल्हा गायिका शीलू सिंह राजपूत ने बहुत कम समय में नाम कमाया है। शीलू सिंह राजपूत आल्हा गुरू स्वर्गीय श्री लल्लू वाजपेयी की शिष्या हैं। वे उत्तर प्रदेश के रायबरेली जिले के खानपुर खुष्टि तालुका के लकुशाहार गाँव की रहने वाली हैं। शीलू सिंह राजपूत की प्रस्तुति जितनी प्रभावी थी उनके संगत करने वाले कलाकार भी उतने ही प्रवीण और जोशीले थे। यह बात देखी भी गई है कि अच्छे संगतकार किसी भी कलाकार को प्रस्तुति के दौरान ऊर्जा देते हैं। शीलू सिंह राजपूत के साथ क्लेरिनेट पर रामअवध, ढोलक पर वासुदेव, दंडताल पर राज बहादुर, झांज पर पवन कुमार ने इस बात को साबित भी किया। शीलू सिंह राजपूत को गायन में गुड्डु ने संगत दी। शीलू सिंह राजपूत ने संजारी के लिए गायन का जो प्रसंग चुना वो ‘ऊदल के ब्याह’ का था। इस कथा का सार है कि महोबा के राजा परमाल के कहने पर ऊदल ढेबा घोड़ा खरीदने के लिए काबुल की ओर जाते हैं। जब वे नरवलगढ़ पहुँचते हैं तो उन्हें वहाँ के राजा की पुत्री फुलवा दिख जाती है। उन्हें उसके साथ विवाह करने का विचार आता है। वे स्त्री वेश बनाकर फुलवा से मिलने जाते हैं और उससे वायदा करते हैं कि वे उसी से विवाह करेंगे। इसके बाद अपने वायदे के पक्के राजपूत वीर ऊदल अपनी सेना के साथ नरवलगढ़ पर चढ़ाई कर देते हैं। वहाँ खूब घमासान युद्ध होता है। आखिर में ऊदल की जीत होती है। नरवलगढ़ के राजा अपनी पुत्री फुलवा का विवाह वीर ऊदल से करते हैं। शीलू सिंह की प्रस्तुति में अभिनय अंग और गायकी का अच्छा सामंजस्य था। कहानी के अनुसार ही संवाद अदायगी और चेहरे की भाव भंगिमा ने उनकी प्रस्तुति को प्रभावी बनाया। उन्होंने पूरे आत्मविश्वास के साथ कथानक प्रस्तुत किए और वीर, करुण और श्रृंगार रस को बखूबी दिखाया। शीलू जब हाथ में तलवार लेकर वीर रस में गातीं तो साक्षात चंडिका का रूप लग रही थीं। दर्शकों को उनकी जोश भरी गायकी खूब पसंद आई। इस युवा कलाकार से भविष्य में काफ़ी आशा की जा सकती है।
