SNA contribution to the musical legacy of India

The video is a documentation of the history and achievements of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. The institution was established after independence in 1952. It was created with the express purpose of forming an apex cultural organization for the preservation and promotion of the performance arts in India. Beginnings of the organisation were humble. However, with time it underwent expansion. In 1953, a documentation unit was set up to preserve audio, films and photographs. SNA has a rich archive of all kinds of performing arts including folk, regional, classical, devotional and ritualistic forms which are preserved in the form of audio, video and journals. The institution was finally housed at Rabindra Bhawan in 1959 in New Delhi.
