Lecture by Balan Nambiar

The video is a recording of a presentation made by the sculptor Balan Nambiar at Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. The artist discussed his work and the issues faced by sculptors in India in terms of materials, storage, transportation and insurance for works. The presentation was divided into four parts. The first part dealt with the technology involved in making sculptures and his early years as a student at the Government College of Art in Chennai. The second section looked at his research and documentation of ritual forms of Kerala which are a source of inspiration for his artworks. The third looked at the mathematical principles and aesthetic choices that informed his works like his sculpture The Sky is the Limit. The last section looked at his studio space.
