This is the story of an idea, at once religious and political, which gripped the mind of a generation of Indian leaders in the last decade of the nineteenth century and the first decade of the twentieth. This book deals with the views of Bankimchandra, Vivekananda, and Dayananda who showed the generation of the extremists several ways out of the impasse, ways which were integral, indigenous, and effective. It explains the rise of extremism in this political context.
