Kumartuli Idol-Making Tradition

This book is a 5th month Project report is based on these interviews, documentation of various research papers by scholars, magazines of Kumartuli samity or organisations, photographs from a private collection. Archiving of photographs from C. Bros, the oldest photography studio of Kolkata, of the various tools and appliances of the clay-modellers have continued through this month. The detailed study of the Kumartuli tradition of idol-making which has essentially emerged as a definite ‘school’ through a history of almost a stretch of three hundred years, simultaneously developing with the growth of the city of Kolkata ( previously Calcutta). This publication is an outcome of the project under Lalit Kala Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India which is titled as "Preservance and Digitising Art Activities During Puja Festival in Kolkata."
