1 Jan 2015

Land and People, written by Kakali Chakrabarty...[et al] is the outcome of a short- term research project on 'Anthropological Study of the Emerging Issues Related to Development', undertaken by the Anthropological Survey of India during 2011-2012. The main objective of this project was to empirically understand the immediate as well as long term effects of the development on the different social strata. The strength of the Anthropological Survey of India is its fieldwork and first-hand information from the people in situ. Development programmes have various facets. They affect differently to different layers of society depending on the basic need of the people, which of course is not the same in every society.
