This book is a 6th-month report from January to March 2014 is all about undergoing an extensive study of the Kumartuli area or the potter’s colony, intrinsically connected to the social and cultural growth of the city of Kolkata, several factors have played a decisive role in determining the trends and stylistic variations in the Kumartuli tradition of clay modelling. This project is an analysis of the definite historical, social and socio-cultural causes which have been crucial in setting up awe-striking and spell-bounding styles in the formation of the clay idol of Devi Durga and the great pomp related to Durga puja celebration. During the stretch of May, it continued with the interviews of Kumartuli artists to discover the unknown facts and gather information related to the making of clay models, especially the idols. This publication is an outcome of the project under Lalit Kala Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, which is titled as "Preservance and Digitising Art Activities During Puja Festival in Kolkata."
