Authored by Edward Gait, this book represents a chronological history of Assam. The author states that the so-called Aryans, and many later invaders, such as the Greeks, the Huns, the Pathans, and the Mughals, entered India from the north-west, and from the north-east through Assam. The book further discusses the prevalent religion and its importance in the region of Assam. It also traces the strange Tantrik developments, both in Hinduism and Buddhism, and the tribal beliefs that existed in Assam.
