This work by E B Havell, embracing architecture, sculpture, and painting in its scope, gives a concise survey of the whole subject, free from dry technicalities, and serves as a useful handbook for travellers in India. It is divided into three sections. The first section of the book deals with architecture which covers the origin of Indian Art, various Stupas, temples, mosques and tombs. The second section covers sculptures of the Buddha, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Trimurti and lesser deities. A brief review of the different schools of Indian paintings, with typical illustration, is given in the third section of the book.
