The present volume of Nandigram: Bio-culture and Ecological Issues is the outcome of one such study conducted by the Survey based on the assessment of the social, economic, biological impact of the people's movement vis-a-vis violence of Nandigram-1, a Community Development Block in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal. Nandigram is a very old rural settlement in the deltaic South Bengal under the district of Purba Medinipur having a glorious past as evidence from the inscription on Tamralipta. A multi-disciplinary team consisting of socio-cultural anthropologists, physical anthropologists, human ecologists and psychologist from the Survey conducted this study using their interdisciplinary expertise and experience in understanding several emerging issues in Nandigram.
