This autobiographical book traces the author’s life in India. In the introductory chapter, Kincaid gives an account of his family, his great grandparents, grandparents, parents, their lives and background. The book takes us to various places of British India, such as Sind, Kathiawar, Poona, Satara, Nasik, and others. It talks about the author’s career as a public servant in India, his service, experiences, and encounters with people, and eventually his retirement. It is divided into sixteen chapters. It is an interesting work, providing information on the lives of people working for the British government in India in the twentieth century.
