It is a catalogue of ancient Indian coins at the Indian Museum in Calcutta. Since earlier catalogues had been more rough than scientific, the need for a new one was desired by the trustees of the Museum, who called on the author to fulfil this task. The coins are described in 24 sections where each section has a brief historical introduction and also gives bibliographic details. Part one gives details of the coins of the early foreign dynasties and the Guptas. Part two mentions ancient coins of Indian types, and part three about Persian, medieval South Indian and miscellaneous coins.
