This book is a 23rd-month report from18th July to 17th August 2015, about Durga puja as a part of the socio-cultural activity, their historical roles in the Bengali society, and moreover their gradual turning into significant contributors in Durga Mahotsav. The change , from a “religious celebration” to a “social celebration” of Durga puja concepts have broadly been the credits of such club pujas, which further have encouraged mass participation, and thus economically have helped many of those physical labour masses. The patronage shifted from local Kings and Zamindars to the social organisations, like that of, Clubs by the end of the 19th century. Several clubs emerged during this era. By the initiation of the 20th century, hundreds of clubs came into existence as a strong answer to the atrocities of British imperialism, which combated the imperial power unitely. “Modernism” and “Post Modernism”, broadly known to be the concept of the west, had been borrowed from the same, which has spread throughout the blood, veins and arteries of India. This publication is an outcome of the project under Lalit Kala Akademi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India which is titled as "Preservance and Digitising Art Activities During Puja Festival in Kolkata."
