It is a revised and enlarged edition of the author’s earlier work Nritanjali: An Introduction to Hindu Dancing. Here, she deals with the ideals of the Hindu classical dance and with the living manifestations of Indian art with chapters on the spirit of Hindu art, the discipline of the theatre, various dance forms, their symbolism, the devadasi dance, Kathakali, Chau, Kathak, etc. The author herself was a recognised expert in dance. The appendix has her article on the fundamentals of Indian Music that provides the latest research. The book is illustrated with fifty Nritya Hastas or hand poses.
