This painting belongs to the Pahari school of painting. Jayadeva, the court poet of King Lakshman Sen of Bengal wrote the Gita Govinda in the 12th century in which he describes the love of Radha and Krishna with intense devotion and makes the love of god reality to man. In this painting, Krishna is in the centre, surrounded by Gopis. He is being attended by four Gopis. Krishna is shown in a yellow lower garment with floral motifs in it. He wears a kirit mukut with two lotuses on the top and peacock feather in the center of the mukut. Krishna is holding a flute with his right hand resting on the shoulder of a gopi while his other hand is around the waist of one of the gopis. The figures are surrounded by small as well as big trees. The painting has a red background with a blue sky on the top. It has an inscription on the reverse.
