This is a painting that depicts the event of the abduction of Sita from Panchvati where she was living with her husband Rama. Showing a multiplicity of events in the same painting, the artist has incorporated two events from the story, the abduction of Sita by Ravana and the great bird Jatayu trying to obstruct him from doing it. When Ravana finds Sita alone in her cottage in Panchavati, he disguises himself as a mendicant and comes to her begging for alms. In the foreground, Sita is being dragged by Ravana from her hut in the forest. To save Sita from the evil clutches of Ravana, Jatayu comes to her rescue and is attacking the ten-headed Ravana.
