"Self and Around No 3" is a typical abstract landscape of Biswanath Mukerji with washes of subdued effect of colours on the surface portraying the self in the landscape. After applying colour, he submerged the painting in water, causing the colours to dilute and spread further. He then applied another layer of colour, submerged the painting again and repeated with alternate dips and application of colour, which caused the pigment to fuse and merge.

- Note
- Biswanath Mukherji belonged to the Neo Bengal school, a style in which the artists perfected the blend of western modernism and eastern sublimity and mysteriousness. In his works, Mukherji, with the help of a flat large brush, wet with water, blurred the painted surface, thus creating a misty appearance. His technique was unique. Most of his paintings had an ethereal, haunting quality, with soft and subdued shades.
