- Krishna Kanwal was born in Punjab in 1910. He studied at Government School of Arts Crafts, Kolkata. Having been associated with this rebellious monk, Krishna Kanwal explored cultural, political and social issues that were of deep concern to the former. Krishna Kanwal especially became known for his watercolor 'views' and mountainscapes. His travels brought for him much reputation initially as an artist, depicting people and places especially in the mountainous areas in Bhutan, Sikkim and Tibet. Most of Krishna Kanwal's paintings are in public or private collections in India apart from selected prestigious collections internationally.
