The painting belongs to the Pahari school of painting. This Shangri Ramayana folio is broadly divided into two parts. On the upper part is seen Raja Dasharatha seated with Kekeyi in her palace. He looks quite miserable, sad and having deep signs of pain. Rama is greatly alarmed at the condition of his father raja Dasharatha. Kekeyi told Rama that during a war between gods and demons, she was with raja Dasharatha and had saved him. At that time he promised two boons for her for which she has now asked him to fulfil, one as Bharata's installation on the throne, and second, his (Rama's) exile into the forest. with no trace of pain Rama accepts the decision of his father raja Dasharatha. Rama and Lakshmana stand with folded hands before Raja Dasharatha to take leave for exile. The chariot is standing outside the palace ready to take them to the forest.
