De taught at the College of Art, New Delhi between 1952-63. Awarded with Fulbright Scholarship in the year 1959 De spent the subsequent years working and travelling in New York. This tour resulted in an enriching experience for De as he was exposed to different artistic expressions. After this excursion De exhibited widely and had become a common name in the art circles. Beginning with painting portraits, De's art had undergone myriad of changes in the 50 decades of his artistic career, from figurative to abstract and completely abandoning figuration in the 60's, he arrived at his signature 'Neo-tantric style'. De's abstract style was very different; it had a fluid nature rather the hard-edged abstraction of the west. His works are in the Berlin State Museum, the National Gallery, Prague, the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, and elsewhere. His works Apparition and Dying Ogre won National Awards from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. his work has been shown around the world, in places like at the 1988 Tokyo festival of India, The Royal Academy of Art, in London, and at biennales in Venice, Tokyo and Sydney. He passed away in 2011 in New Delhi.
