A Princess on Horse Back

This painting belongs to the Pahari school of painting which depicts a princess seated on a horseback with a bridal in her left hand and her right hand resting on the neck of the horse. The princess is fair complexioned, has clear black eyes and looking straight, has black hair on the head, properly dressed and a curl is falling close to the left ear. She wears a yellow peshwaz, a turban with a plume, is also decked with ornaments, wears ear-rings with pearls, a nose ring, a head ornament, a pearl or precious stone falling on the forehead, armlets, a long mala of pearls, a mala of pearls tied to the turban. The horse on which the princess is seated is brown complexioned, has open eyes, mouth open as if panting for breath, a tail with a tuft of hair raised up and again falling. The horse is furnished with saddle, a striped cloth cover and colourful tassels dangling down. A plume is tied to his head. An ornamental cloth belt or a string of bells is placed around the neck of the horse. The horse is galloping, front two legs are raised and the hind two legs are bent to maintain the balance. Red border with a black line. An inscription on the painting in Urdu reads 'Ghora Asil Hai, Partap'.
