- Janardhan Dattareya Gondhalekar was born in 1909 in Amraovati in Maharashtra. He received his Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the Sir J. J. School of Art in Mumbai, In England he studied techniques and skills at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and at the Academy Julian in Paris. His water colours carry a spatial openness and a peculiar lightness in rendering structural quotients including rocky grounds and architectural elements that allow his compositions to carry a breath, the inner life force. By layering colour washes with great skill his works depicts the elemental presence that permeates the monuments and architectural elements that dominate his landscapes
