Kashmir State, India

1912

Seven men, many wearing trousers and turbans, cross the Jhelum River in Garhi, Kashmir, India, using a three-rope suspension bridge. One rope is meant to be walked on, while the other two are grasped with the hands for balance. The men are walking with their feet pointed outward for balance. The Jhelum River is a tributary of the Indus River, and flows through the northeast of Kashmir. Kashmir is a disputed territory, with parts of the region claimed by India, other parts claimed by Pakistan, and a small section under the control of China, (1912).
