India - House of a Rich Native

1901

The home of a rich native in Bombay (Mumbai), India. The house has at least four stories. In front is a fence with intricately designed metalwork and columns topped with statues, including two lions at the gate. The first story of the house is made up of three archways. The leftmost arch supports a sign in an Indian language, possibly Hindi, while the rightmost arch holds a clothesline with three garments. The upper stories each have three windows, which open outward to the street. There are people visible in at least four of the six windows. Five men are walking in front of the house in the foreground, including one with a parsol, (1901).
