Letter from Benjamin Smith Lyman to Mr. Lesley

1870

Lyman provides extensive detail about his daily work schedule, the size, extent, composition of, and distance between various boring sites. He discusses his plan for providing general reports and maps of the survey regions, rather than attempting to personally supervise individual boring sites across the Punjab, Asam, and Burma. Finally, Lyman requests that Mr. Lesley renew a patent caveat, and elaborates on the Hindustani language and his continued reliance on an interpreter.
