Project is co-sponsored by the Asian American Commission of Massachusetts Bhuwan Gautam was born in Bhutan and became a refugee at the age of seven. He lived in the Timai refugee camp in Eastern Nepal for fifteen years before resettling in the United States in 2008. Mr. Gautam worked as a behavioral specialist at a community health center for two years and has over five years of experience working with refugee resettlement. Mr. Gautam also serves as a co-investigator with the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health, studying health and mental health problems faced by Bhutanese refugees in the U.S. He is the co-founder of a Sanitation, Health and Nutrition Study center in eastern Nepal. Additionally, Mr. Gautam launched the Bhutanese Society of Western Massachusetts, a nonprofit that aids the social, cultural, educational, and health needs of the resettled Bhutanese refugees in Western Mass. He also serves as a co-investigator and steering committee member for the Research Program on Children and Adversity at Boston College School of Social Work, and as a co-investigator for the Global Demography of Aging program at Harvard University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Studies from Tribhuvan University in Nepal, a Bachelor of Arts of Liberal Arts from Western New England University, and a Masters of Public Administration from Westfield State University. He is currently the board chair of the Bhutanese Society of Western Massachusetts, and lives in Springfield, Massachusetts with his wife and daughter.
