Tunic

Research in Progress Red taffeta embroidered in colored silks in loose satin stitch with some chain stitch. Thick untwisted silk threads are used in the embroidery in black, white, purple, green, and yellow. Stylized floral bands trisect the front and back and outline the neckline, which is slit down about six inches in the front and back, the side seams and the two side slits. In the front, the two sections between the bands are ornamented with three sets of geometrically arranged black and white flowers, triangular-shaped flowers, and flowers that extend straight up from the bottom border. Neck, sleeve bands, and bottom border are reinforced with pieces of tough green cotton which does not show on the outside.
