In-Patients, Jalalpur, Pakistan, ca.1900

“Dressings – In-patients.” View of several men and women both seated and lying on hospital beds outside. Jalalpur Jattan is located approximately 10 miles northeast of Gujrat. Dr. Herbert Francis Lechmere Taylor (1872-1954), was a medical missionary in the Punjab region, specifically Jalalpur. This photo is likely the hospital that Dr. Taylor helped establish. He later returned to Edinburgh, where he was superintendent of the Edinburgh Medical Mission Society. He also published a book, In the Land of the Five Rivers, about his time in the Punjab.
