Tinted lantern slide showing three young girls in a group portrait in India. Two older girls wear loin-cloths and silver jewellery as ear-rings, ankle-bracelets and bracelets. The girls also wear large necklaces and their hair is wrapped in a bun on top of their heads. One girl holds a younger female friend or sibling, who wears silver jewellery and a shirt. The girls are probably from the Tharu nationality, an ethnic group indigenous to the southern foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal. Women from the Tharu community wear elaborate silver jewellery. This slide comes from a collection created by missionaries from Regions Beyond Missionary Union, an interdenominational Protestant evangelical mission working in northeast India (Bihar and Orissa) and Nepal.
