"Temple Idols". Temple idols and priests at Rameswaram. Rameswaram is an island in the Palk Strait which divides Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka. This is one of the holiest sites in India, according to legend sanctified by Rama on his successful return from Sri Lanka after defeating Ravana From a set of lantern slides entitled "Ceylon, a fascinating field" revised by Rev. A.S. Beaty in 1942. Arthur Stanley Beaty (1883-1970) was a Methodist missionary in Ceylon [Sri Lanka] from 1906 to 1939.
