Detail of the Alai Darwaza gateway showing inscriptions carved into sandstone blocks and areas of damage. As part of the Qutub complex the gateway leads to the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid (mosque) and sits beneath the Qutub minaret. It was added to the mosque in 1300 by Ala-ud-Din Khilji. ❧ This is one of a series of photographs contained in an album showing popular tourist attractions in India, the album was owned by an unknown Church of Scotland missionary who had probably taken the tour whilst working out in the region. Unfortunately there is very little information with the photographs as to there ownership or subject matter.
