Temple Square, Jammu and Kashmir, India, ca.1900

“Temple Square, Jammu.” View of part of the city of Jammu with temple spires visible above rooftops. Jammu is known as ‘the city of temples’ and is the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Access to the capital was restricted until talks ensued with Prince Amar Singh and the Maharaja which allowed for the opening of a public school. Hari Singh was superintendent of the mission and John F W Youngson (1852-1920) was the Church of Scotland minister.
