Jama Masjid, Delhi, India, ca.1900-1929

Exterior view of the Jama Masjid, the principle Mosque of Old Delhi, showing the whole of the building viewed across open grounds from a residential rooftop. The mosque was built by Shah Jahan and completed in 1656 and is situated near the Red Fort. ❧ This is one of a series of photographs contained in an album showing popular tourist attractions in India, the album was owned by an unknown Church of Scotland missionary who had probably taken the tour whilst working out in the region. Unfortunately there is very little information with the photographs as to there ownership or subject matter.
