Kambhodi Ragini from a Ragamala

Deccani school From at least 1950 to early 1970s Maharaja of Bikaner, India, from at least 1950 [1] To 1999 Francesca Galloway, London, to 1999 From 1999 Freer Gallery of Art, purchased from Francesca Galloway in 1999 Notes: [1] The object was first published in 1950, as part of the private collection of the Maharaja of Bikaner at Lallgarh Palace. There is a written statement by an outside scholar attesting to its sale in the early 1970s to a private collector in London, and it is well known that a very major group of paintings from the Bikaner Collection did indeed come onto the market at that time. With this information there is no provenance problem with the acquisition of this painting by the Freer Gallery of Art (see documentation in the object file found in the Registrar's office) (according to Curatorial Note 3, Milo C. Beach, January 13, 1999, in the object record). Also, attached to the back of the object is a sheet of paper which reads: "Miniature painting belongs to the personal collection of H H Maharaja Bikaner..." (see Curatorial Note 3, Elizabeth F. Duley, April 8, 1999, in the object record). Freer Gallery of Art Collection Arts of the Indian Subcontinent and the Himalayas (October 16, 2004 to January 3, 2016) Francesca Galloway
