Scene from the Rama Lila, with crowd of people sitting in front of the effigy of Kumbhakarna (who holds a shield in one hand and a dagger in the other). An elephant carrying a howdah, mahuot and chauri holder, and two children in ceremonial costumes (probably dressed for Ram Lila) can be seen at the right hand corner. Two men sit outside the crowd in the circular open space. The man to the right has a young boy sitting nest to him. A long two storeyed building, flanked by narrow two storey structures on either sides is in the background (the crowd sitting in front of it). The openings are covered on the first floor with cloth curtains abd wooden doors. Bamboo curtains, (chik) hang on the ground floor entrances, and women sit behind them. The building may have been viewing pavillion for women, although many sit in the crowd as a group to the left. Ridgeway produced this photograph in his book. See printer’s instructions on mount.
