On Catalogue Card: Mahratta Nautch girls. Studio portrait, full length of two (perhaps natch) girls wearing ghagra over pyjama (or a salwaar) and ghungroo on their ankles, brocade blouse and a benarasi dupatta (covering left their shoulders). They wear traditional jwellery of the region- nose rings, bangles, and earrings, and stand half facing each other holding each others hands in a position of dance movement. The bindi on their forehead is a mark of Hindu (and not a muslim, but see notes field) custom.
