Sri Lanka Ceylon Ansikte gult. Pannband vitt med röda ringar.Pannring grön med röda streck. öron påsatta grova små klossar. Höjd: 42 cm. Bredd: 21 em. [ocr] 1916.9.49 Name and identification of character A Buddhist prince, kumaraya (Sin.). The face has female features as well as male. Context This character appears in the story part in a Kolam performance. A character in a Buddhist (?) Material Wood, Vel-kaduru (Sin.) (Nux vomica). Iconography The small diadem is in the shape of a relic chamber, dagäba (Sin.), set inside a halo. The base of the crown is decorated with petal design, palapeti (Sin.), primarily in yellow and with a few red lines. Over the base are four tiers. The crest is indicative of a kota (Sin.) (a small spire) normally fixed to a dagäba. The colours on the halo are suggestive of the colours that emanated from the Buddha, like an aura. Although, only few colours are shown. The forehead band is in two parts, one in green (and decorated with petal design) and underneath it another band with white as the base and decorated with red circles, giving the impression of the border of a cloth. The hair extends downwards in the shape of whiskers, painted black. The face is lemon yellow and its shape is more of a princess, although, the whiskers and the prominent diadem are suggestive of a male. The mouth is closed and the lips are rendered in pink. The ears are crudely carved. There are no earrings. 2000 03 13 Dr. M. H. Goonatilleka Sri Lanka Ceylon Face yellow. Boiler band white with red rings.
