Dharahara or the Bhimsen Tower was built during the 19th century by Prime Minister Bhimsen Thapa. The tower imitating the Mughal minarets was erected just outside the Kathmandu city walls, where it dominated the city skyline. Dharahara was originally eleven storeys and was damaged in the 1934 earthquake. It completely fell during the 2015 earthquake.
