Baber Mahal was the residence of General Baber Shumsher J.B. Rana after 1928. It was built under the supervision of Kumar Narshing and is said to have been built after Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher's return from England. The design is said to have been built afte the Buckingham Palace in London which had greatly impressed him. It took four years to complete the building.
